"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change
the world. Indeed it is the only thing that ever has."
Margaret Meade, American cultural anthropologist
With a surplus of international charities available, choosing an organization to commit to can seem overwhelming. Questions regarding where your donations will go and how big of an impact you can make are ones that donors ask themselves every day.
CGDN's approach focuses on providing and promoting education on responsible global philanthropy, increasing awareness around the most pressing international issues, and increasing exposure to experts and organizations on the front lines in order to optimize grantmaking. By joining CGDN, you can strengthen your effectiveness as a donor through information, networking opportunities, education and resources on global issues.

"I learned it is going beyond being a donor. Understanding philanthropy as an investment, the risks associated
with it, and how you really have to dig deep to understand and follow your dollar"

ANNUAL CONFERENCE ON INTERNATIONAL GIVING
The Annual Conference highlights donors and practitioners who are making an impact on the most challenging global issues of our day. As the only conference in the Midwest that focuses specifically on global giving, our conference brings together donors and practitioners to discuss how philanthropic strategies can address the alleviation of global poverty, human rights, climate change, education, health, and economic development. The conference attracts a diverse audience that includes students, diaspora/immigrant donors, philanthropic advisors and highly influential philanthropic, business and civic leaders from Chicago, and from other cities in the Midwest.
Participants increase their knowledge about key global issues, increase their understanding of effective philanthropic strategies to address the global issues they care about; and make connections to other global donors who can serve as resources and partners to help increase the impact of international giving.
CGDN VIP EVENTS AND PROGRAMS
CGDN hosts annual VIP events for members to facilitate networking with influential people in order to increase personal knowledge on international philanthropy and issues. Programs in the past have included intimate gatherings with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, economists Amartya Sen, Paul Collier, and Jeffrey Sachs, physician and public health champion, Dr. Paul Farmer, Mexican philanthropist and businessman Manuel Arango, and President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia.
CGDN offers a variety of regular programming including our Global U Series – How to Connect Your Charitable Giving to Your Global Interests. In these evening seminars, experienced international donors share tools and strategies to help each other launch or expand strategic and thoughtful global giving.
CGDN WEBSITE
CGDN’s website is viewed by approximately 1,000 universal visitors every month. Members can post events, news, opportunities and other items of interest to help increase awareness and involvement of international philanthropic activity.
PRIVATE WEB FORUM
As philanthropists, we know that the more people involved, the greater the possible impact. To facilitate networking, CGDN is setting up a private networking website where members at the Global Change-Maker and Global Leader levels can share information and interests. CGDN staff will provide one-on-one support and technical assistance to facilitate the use of this site.
